Humans are considered to be, by far, the highest-ranking build in the entire game. The playerbase self proclaims its build to be the most OP build in the history of the game. This is mainly because of their intelligence stat. Many think they deserve a nerf - or even a ban, but due to the devs tending to not follow up on such controversial things, they are still both versatile and playable in-game. Although, a significant thing that could be considered to be an "indirect nerf" is that they will have plague outbreaks of bacteria, virus, and parasites.

How to Spec

Spec as much as possible into Intelligence. Aesthetics don't matter as long as you have enough currency, which is something you can acquire more easily with higher Intelligence. Besides, more currency can allow you to get better aesthetics without spending any Evolution Points that could be spent on Intelligence.

Tier Placement

The human build is a terrestrial simian primate build that is usually considered to be one of the most OP builds in the game, due to their unique abilities, high INT stat, which has allowed Humans to boost nearly every single other stat to max (with the notable exception of health) and give them the capability to perform non-unique tasks much more efficiently than other builds.

Despite all this, even humans have certain servers where they're low, if not outright bottom-tier. The most notable of these are arboreal servers. Due to their ancestors sacrificing their ability to roam the trees and climb up them to become terrestrial builds, humans get a massive speed debuff when trying to climb up them, making chasing after prey or fleeing from predatory players up trees nearly impossible. Humans can spec into relearning arboreal skills, but it takes several years for a human player to fully master them, and even then, most climbing humans need special equipment to aid them such as a grappling hook.

Abilities

Sweat

One of the human build's main characteristics is their stamina regeneration. Humans have the ability to chase down almost anything, with the speed depending on the tools used and terrain. If another player tries to run from a human, they might outspeed them initially, but they'll run out of stamina much sooner than the human will, allowing for the human to be able to land attacks on their weakened state. This is due to the fact that they have un-specced out of the "fur" trait, giving them access to an extremely broken ability: Sweat. Most current builds that are decent at distance running recharge stamina by using the move Pant. This also a great choice for stamina regeneration, but requires the inhalation and expulsion of air, resulting in a speed debuff as the player needs to stop in order to use the move to its full potential. Sweat, on the other hand, works better when the player is moving, as it is both subconscious (allows for the already maxed out intelligence to be used to its full potential at best) and the player does not need to stop. It is also more effective when there is a flow of air, which occurs whilst the player is moving. This massively extends the distance that Human players can run, although, it is worth mentioning that the Sweat ability could be harmful, especially in colder climates where it could potentially freeze the player and either cause injuries or perhaps even a game over. Even though hoofed builds can sweat, they do this poorly compared to humans, therefore giving them one of the worst match-ups against this build.

Item Throw

Ancient humans throwing a spear.

Ancient humans throwing a spear.

Humans have their ability to throw things. Although other builds can also throw things, humans can do so more effectively, faster, and further than any other build. The reason for this is their body structure, which is designed for doing such actions, despite the fact that bipedal builds are tough to balance, both within the evolutionary sense of the game and the sense when it comes to balancing one's center of mass properly. Throwing an item with any effective force behind it requires serious balance, achieved only by having shorter arms and longer legs, which is a trait the human build possesses. This is why humans can launch projectiles at deadly speeds, while other primates are unable to keep up, as their builds are geared towards other abilities. A good example is climbing, which requires the hind and forelegs to be more balanced in terms of length and strength. From the in-game year, 2014 and further on, the human player base has created a new term for throwing, using the slang word "yeeting" or "yeet" to describe the action.

Language

Although the ability to communicate through sounds and gestures is common in mammals and even some birds, humans have a drastically more complex, rigid, and effective way of communication. This was important early on in the game, as this ability contributed to much of how the human specced using their evolution points, such as developing a larynx and using tactics such as team gameplay more effectively. Speaking of tactics, humans also learned to utilize the signature move [Teach] even better than other builds in the game, with the move drastically boosting skill point gain, mitigating the main penalty a player receives upon getting a game over.

Other Abilities

They also have a few other important abilities that are essential to their kit but aren't unique to humans. Humans and birds also share another unique trait which is being able to stand upright. Standing upright is extremely useful for dealing with stealth-based builds that might normally be using tall grass to hide.

Tool use also might be thought of as a human-exclusive move, and it certainly is the most effective in humans, but it turns out that a wide array of other builds can also do it.

They also have gut bacteria that break down foods which means that humans gain more XP from foods than usual. This means that they don't have to have a lot of food to sustain which means that less of them die of starvation.

The vaccination ability allows humans to be immune to all viruses, this ability can be very useful for fast spreading, and high tier viruses.

Some humans have spent evolution points into lactose tolerance which allows them to gain XP from milk without debuffs even when they have leveled up.

Lastly, humans have a low level syrinx intimidation ability known as finger snapping. By curling up their ring and pinkie finger, placing the thumb on the middle finger, and pushing force until it slides off and hits the index finger, the resulting air disturbance yields a small intimidation effect. This move also has very low startup lag and can be done many times repetitively to increase effectiveness.

Weaknesses

It is true that most human players can subvert their weaknesses with their [Crafting] ability. But it's important to recognize that without equipment, the human build isn't necessarily unstoppable.

Lack of Fur

The decision to not have fur granted humans a massive buff to mobility at the cost of stealth. In the mammal faction, fur is the prerequisite to all the major stealth abilities like camouflage. And a lack of Stealth abilities means getting in close to their targets is a serious challenge. The Human build's lack of fur also means that they have very low defense, both from physical attacks and from environmental effects. Bare skin offers almost 0 protection, to the point where even lower weight classes have no trouble dealing damage to humans. And bare skin also takes quite a bit of damage from the sun too.

Limited Offensive Attacks

Humans are also quite limited when it comes to the power stat. Physically, they're the weakest of the great apes, and they don't really have any good options for dealing damage They lack the classic high damage [Bite] attack that nearly every other non-herbivorous build relies on, instead having to resort to blunt attacks like [Punch] and [Kick], which aren't very effective against builds that have thick skin and/or fur. Though with weapons like the sword, spear and gun, they could replace their weak [Punch] and [Kick] attacks with downright broken attacks like the [Slash] attack with the sword equipped,

Vulnerability Towards Stealth Builds

The last major weakness that humans have is that they're very bad at dealing with stealth. While they do possess trichromacy, the lack of night vision means darkness can really hamper their ability to locate targets. And their lack of a strong sense of smell means camouflage is especially useful against them.

Infighting

A lot of the humans have disagreements with each other and over the many updates, There has been an uncountable number of PvP. They are also the only build to purposely build weapons to kill millions of their own kind.

Weak early game

Compared to other simians, low-level humans are much more dependent on teammates. In addition, despite human's main objective constitutes of assisting low-level players, spawning has a non-negligible chance of getting a game over without the use of technology.

Moveset

Kick: Blunt - Kicking are the strongest move a human can do unarmed and can even knock back even the largest animals such as elephants and rhinos Punch: Blunt - Strikes with fist Slap: Blunt - Mainly used against insect builds. Crafted PVP Tool: uses any PVP tool the user has in their inventory.
Item Throw: Can be quite effective depending on what is being thrown by the player. A human player can throw up to 90mph which is x faster than the throws of chimpanzees and gorillas. Shoot: Used when the player has a projectile-based weapons like a gun, a slingshot, or a bow. Grapple: Used to grab a weapon, projectile, or even to grab onto another player. Scratch: Due to the human's lack of claws, this move is by far the human's weakest move and does little to no damage.
Stab: This move becomes accessible when the user has a sharp tool like a knife, sword or spear. Slash: This move can be used when the player has a sword, knife, spear or any other sharp weapon. Bite: Though humans can bite and cause the bleed status effect, it pales in comparison to the bites of wolves, lions, and many other similar-sized and larger predators that rely on teeth. Wrestle: Advanced grappling - This move is used mainly against other humans.
Choke: Choking is super effective against players with thin necks(i.e. geese, swans). It is moderately effective against dog and human players. It's highly ineffective against players with either thick, sturdy, or large necks (i.e. hyenas, bears, boars). Yell: A loud intimidation move which reduces a players resolve. Sweat: Regenerates stamina on the move whilst mitigating the overheating debuff. Spear Throw: Becomes accessible once the spear is obtained.
Stomp: Blunt - Mainly used against small players like rodent and insects mains. Eye Gouge: Induces the blindness debuff when connected. It puts the human player's finger at risk if it fails. Climb: Allows access to arboreal zone, mainly used to evade combat with ground-locked mains like hyenas, rhinos, wolves, bulls, horses, hippos etc. Tackle: Knocks someone down with the momentum of running and/or jumping.

Traits

Warm-Blooded

This means that humans don't have to be in the right conditions or weather, but in return require more food to sustain. It is also vulnerable to the ability "Heat Vision", but their stealth was already bad to begin with.

Feelings/Instincts

This allows the user to respond accordingly to the situation. Fear can fuel fight or flight, anger can increase attack damage, sadness can make you do less damage, have less resolve but if the opponent has the feelings trait as well, it can put a morale boost to the opponent, disgust which means that they are less likely to eat harmful or poisonous food.

Match-ups

A Human tries to take down a bear, probably a very risky endeavor for the Human.

A Human tries to take down a bear, probably a very risky endeavor for the Human.

Tanks

Obviously, a key feature of the human build is being able to craft equipment. Given basic equipment, like low-level armor and hunting gear, the human's best match-up is against medium-large mammals. Unlike blunt damage, piercing damage is quite effective versus builds with thick hide. But on defense, they're actually quite awful. A human's only option on defense against large mammals is intimidation unless they have access to extremely high-level equipment like guns. The basic equipment humans can construct cannot stop a charging tank main unless the intimidation attempt works. But overall, this match-up is one of the reasons humans became top tier. Hardly any builds have favorable match-ups against tanks. Humans also tend to spawn kill hoofed builds, like cattle, caprines, horses, and camels, and can gank elephant and rhino builds quite easily.

Stealth

Stelg=f

As was said earlier, one of the major counters to humans is stealth. Stealth can be really effective against them due to their lack of a keen sense of smell and night vision. Humans have the ability to win almost any fight as long as they have time to prepare. However, if taken by surprise, humans have a lot fewer options unless they have night vision goggles.

Flight is one of the best counterplay options against human builds, especially if they aren't equipped with projectile weapons, and even if they are, dodging such projectiles is easier due to being able to make oneself a smaller target due to distance.

Flight is one of the best counterplay options against human builds, especially if they aren't equipped with projectile weapons, and even if they are, dodging such projectiles is easier due to being able to make oneself a smaller target due to distance.

Flying Builds

Another thing humans have trouble dealing with is flight. Even when a Human has a ranged weapon, players with high aerial mobility are usually safe during flight, since they can be hard to land a shot on. There are very few known flying bird builds powerful enough to one-shot a Human, which is important because blunt attacks like punches and kicks are actually quite effective against birds. The only known exception is the haast's eagle build, which was itself banned at the end of the Pleistocene expansion pack. Birds have hollow bones that are resistant to tension and torsion, but not compression. This is the opposite of mammal bones, which are resistant to compression and tension, but not torsion. Because of this, birds aren't the best choice against humans.

Rodents

Many rodent players like rats, mice, squirrels have good protection against humans through their adaptability to city environments and high spawn rates they have been able to benefit greatly from the expansion of humans and their civilization.

Eusocial Insects

Flying, eusocial Insects have by far one of the best matchups versus humans in the entire game. Humans have zero counter-play options against a swarm of stinging Insects unless they prepared with special items that they can use to combat swarms, which is quite unlikely. Human's lack of fur means they have no innate defense against stings. If the human has the [Allergy] trait, stings also have the chance to proc the [Anaphylaxis] debuff, which can actually lead to a game over if not treated. And it's for this reason that the high score for human eliminations belongs to the africanized honey bee, known better by its community given name, the killer bee. Even if the human doesn't have an [Allergy] trait, then enough stings can still eliminate a human and are at least guaranteed to drive them away. However, the human's crafting can eliminate eusocial insect builds quite easily.

Viruses

SARS CoV2, the virus behind the COVID-19 pandemic decimating the human playerbase.

SARS CoV2, the virus behind the COVID-19 pandemic decimating the human playerbase.

Though not mentioned by TierZoo, viruses have the best matchups against humans. Viruses are NPCs and not players. Despite this, they are harder to counter than bacteria because they are not technically a living class and thus have no fail-proof cure. They are often dangerous and can attack a human's code. It also takes longer to craft a tool to subvert viruses. Some, like Spanish Flu, Ebola, and AIDS, usually lead to a game over. The recent COVID-19 pandemic, for example, has already eliminated millions of human mains and has infected many more.

Advancements

Again, as mentioned, they have a high intelligence which leads to several advancements, helping them to grow their dexterity and knowledge. Abilities like "Tool Use" and "Teach" have expanded the Humans' skill and proficiency in many areas. They have innovated new strategies on dealing with many problems and match-ups. Better Agriculture and Medicine have decreased the game over rate of Humans drastically.

However, many of the Human's advancements also come with disadvantages, especially environmental. Many of the items and structures they have made have pumped carbon dioxide from coal and other fossil fuels into the atmosphere, which has resulted in a greenhouse effect trapping more heat from the sun and changing climate patterns across all servers, melting Arctic ice sheets and causing sea levels to rise. Several human groups and factions have advocated the use of renewable energy sources, but practical methods of providing enough energy for the human playerbase using only renewable sources have yet to be developed. They also have achieve space and was the build that made it to lunar dlc they also sent a satellite very far out in the space dlc Voyager 1 and it has a golden record on it for aliens to discover.

Culture and Religion

DANCE PARTY

DANCE PARTY

Culture and Religion are patterns in the ways that humans act and think. There are different cultures and religions on different servers. Culture and religion tend to be connected, although this is not a hard and fast rule. Both patterns can provide broad morale buffs and mitigate the morale debuffs of certain in-game events, such as the death of a party member. They also have historically provided the framework for the "Teach" ability to be employed in the most efficient manner.

Support Class

Humans have the power to team up with support classes that come in mostly three types, mounts, battle summons, and companions. Mounts are units that humans can team up with to create a more powerful battle unit, Battle summons cover the humans' weaknesses and companions provide a morale boost to the human and the companion. There is a downside to this as humans suffer a morale debuff when they lose a companion or any animal in general.

City Biome

The City Tier List

The City Tier List

(Main Page)

Humans have created an entirely new biome, the city biome. This is where most human mains play on and where high intelligence is vital. High mobility is also maybe just as vital as intelligence.

Tips for Playing in the City Biome

Try to have high intelligence and mobility as they are needed to do fundamentals like open doors, navigate the weird terrain of the city, and many more. High stealth is also quite good as you can avoid contact with humans more easily which is why while not mentioned in tier zoo's video, insects are mostly top tier their thanks to how little they are mobile. Try to speck into the omnivorous trait as it is very helpful to eat the leftover scraps that humans leave.

Support Classes

This is a place where support classes, (especially dogs and cats) thrive as more humans mean more demand for support classes.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • High INT, just like any primate, coupled with long playthrough, resulting a lot of wisdom.
    • The high INT also enables humans to strategize and prepare better than most builds.
  • Great Mobility (manifests in high stamina).
  • Sweating allows stamina regeneration while running as well as an increased heat resistance buff.
  • Item Throw grants the ability to use projectile weapons.
  • Speech allows for more effective communication and signaling.
  • Tool Use opens up the ability to craft and use a wide variety of items that can increase other stats.
  • Bipedalism frees up the upper limbs to make use of grasping abilities.
  • Allied with bacteria support players to gain bonus EXP from eating.
  • Human mains can also use the "cook" ability on food to further increase EXP and reduce potential debuffs gained from food.
  • The Crafting ability gives humans the best weapons imaginable.
  • Having specced into omnivory, human mains can gain EXP from almost any loot.
  • Advanced dexterity allows for proficient tool use.
  • An unmatched adaptability allowing for humans to conquer every server except Antarctica and the Arctic server.
  • Thanks to having specced into tool use, item throw, opposable thumbs etc. Humans are the only build who make use of all four grappling, spacing, rushdown, and projectile type moves.
  • High INT means they are good against High PWR and High DEF Builds.

Cons:

  • Moderate PWR.
  • Poor DEF.
  • Moderate HP.
  • Bad STL.
  • High INT means an incredibly high food cost (Humans have gut bacteria which means that they have slightly avoided this problem).
  • Average top speed is very low compared to most builds.
  • Weak early game.
  • Abysmal Arboreal movement, especially compared to other Primates.
  • Slow climbing speed.
  • Relies on team gameplay, which means they can be targeted easily once alone or in a small group.

History

A group of early Hominids

A group of early Hominids

There have been many diverse humans and they have been nerfed several times. The first build to unlock the human class were some primate players in Africa who switched from a quadrupedal build to a bipedal one and since they haven't ditched their arboreal strategy yet, it might seem, well, unhelpful but switching to bipedalism means that you have freed up your hands to be used for grabbing. Basically, they could carry more items. The devs later noticed that their strategy of simply fleeing to the treetops whenever in danger was a bit overpowered, so the devs reduced the number and max height of trees on the African server. This is when they became a fully terrestrial build and got rid of most arboreal traits. With no solid way to deal damage, humans got bodied on a daily basis by powerful DPS builds. The human player base realized this and began getting creative with their playstyle, quickly discovering that some items around them, like rocks and pointy sticks, could be used to their advantage. Because scavenging was a big part of their game plan back then, they quickly found out cracking bones from carcasses is a great way to access the XP-rich marrow inside. Once they collected enough Evolution Points with this playstyle, they began massively boosting some stats and unlocking most abilities they have today. They specked into longer legs, which automatically increased Mobility, got rid of most of their body hair, which reduced their Stealth level to one of the lowest in the game, but their new ability [Sweating] more than made up for this. They could now be efficient hunters, mostly targeting mid-sized herbivores like the Antelope. Their hunting strategy was very simple: track down potential prey, locate it, charge, run until the prey gets tired, then stab them to death with a spear. Spears were a very effective weapon, useful for both melee and ranged combat. During this time, they also made another crucial discovery: fire control. Fire served multiple purposes, like scaring away more powerful builds, providing warmth and most importantly: cooking raw meat. Cooked meat was worth much more XP than raw meat and was easier to digest. This ultimately led to an increase to their already high Intelligence. As their Intelligence grew, so did their curiosity. They started exploring much larger areas. After a while, they finally made it out of the African server and at that point, they started to get OP.

Ouch!

Ouch!

The new players were totally unprepared for the rapid invasion. Human mains have expanded their range to Europe and Asia. Just when they arrived there, the Ice Age patch was released, forcing the Human player base to speck into a bulkier build with lighter skin. This group eventually became so distinct from their cousins in Africa that they even changed their collective name to 'Neanderthals'. Neanderthals just had astounding base stats, just absolutely phenomenal! However, as we all know, they aren't playable today, so what happened? This is a very controversial question; most players believe they got wiped out by the sapiens (Humans who stayed in Africa, but eventually left it) So why is it that they lost the faction war to the sapiens? We'll get into that in just a minute but since they were already adapted, it didn't really affect them. Ironically, as the temperatures in Europe got colder the temperatures in Africa got warmer, which means that all the herbivores left and the Sapiens survived by levelling up their fishing levels. Anyways, back to Neanderthals. Since they were bulkier than modern Humans, they could take a hit or two and still be alive, which means that they didn't have to invent ranged weapons. Larger size also means more food costs. Neanderthals also had smaller party sizes while sapiens formed large communities and societies. Soon after, Neanderthals were banned as the sapiens could form larger parties (including some friendly wolf mains that later became dogs) and could grief the same builds, like Mammoths, Bison, and Reindeer, with more ease. However, some Neanderthals did switch factions.

After that, Humans had an agricultural revolution which allowed them to cultivate wheat, barley, rice, beans, fruit, and many more plant builds. They also were able to tame some ungulate and bird builds and spawn-kill them, with the help of their trusty dog mains. These include cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, geese, and ducks. They also added camels, horses, cats, parrots, and rabbits to their parties, alongside dogs.

Soon, human civilization boomed with the emergence of great civilizations like the Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Egyptians, Sumerians, Babylonians, Jews, Mauryans, Guptas, and many others. This was the great Classical Era. However, it ended with the emergence of the Middle Ages, with lots of Germanic and Celtic clans dotting Europe, and with tiny kingdoms all over the Chinese and Indian servers, sometimes unifying, and sometimes breaking apart. This was also a time when great caliphates arose in the Middle Eastern servers. It was a time of PvP and innovations in weapons.

This is game’s map. The red places are all the servers that just ONE clan controlled.

This is game’s map. The red places are all the servers that just ONE clan controlled.

Soon after, the Renaissance happened with innovations in technology and art. However, some human players got greedy and wanted to claim as much land as possible under their control. This led to many colonial empires in up to 1400’s - 1900's. They made the cultral division of humans firm, and many cruel practices originated here.

In those times, there were several revolutions including the French revolution and the American revolution which influenced new clans and ideologies. But during those times itself, being a human wasn't the best unless you were lucky.

During the times the empires collapsed , there were WW1, WW2 and the Cold war which innovated people to create technology like and learn how to control electricity in the form of mobile devices. Lazers, Vaccines, Laptops, TVs, Headphones, Advanced light bulbs all sorts of stuff came and being a human was starting to be more low risk high reward than high risk high reward. There also some incredible events that happened like convincing the devs to add the satellite, rover and things like that playable. There was also moon landings, GPS inplicated, and the worst of all, nuclear technology.

Debate over the validity of Human's S tier status

Many people say that humans are trash and that without weapons they would be ineffective though presents to be unfair like taking away a snakes' venom or a tigers' teeth and strength away. It's just a unique way humans fight. Humans craft spears, tigers maul with teeth and snakes kill with venom. It is pointed out that Outside isn't just a one-dimensional PVP game, where an animal do not need to be strong as long as you have something to make up for it an example would be corvids in the city server. In this case, their intelligence are leaps above every other build.

Trivia (Somewhat)

  • Humans engage in combat quite frequently whether if it is a moral cause, or just simply a disagreement, or maybe there is a higher reason, who knows?
  • Many body functions of the human malfunction sometimes or just, in general, are inefficient. An example is that since humans have the same 'hole' when they breath or eat, choking is higher than other animals which can gobble down prey 1/2 the size of itself. Another example is that humans have to gain important nutrients through food and not just produce them. Most builds can produce all 20 of the necessary but humans can only produce 10! Okay, one last example, since humans are bipedal, most force is being applied to the not large foot. This is why if they bend the bone too quickly, a game over is not at low levels but it isn't high by any means.
  • Millions of human players believe in "God", more on that in Religion.
  • Humans thrive in almost all servers expect Ocean and Antarctica.
